Medieval abandoned town of Fullola

It is located in the center of the medieval deserted town of the same name, next to the ruins of the Gothic church, about 12 km northeast of Tortosa. The origin of the Fullola, with a huge term, is usually attributed to times before the Middle Ages, although, at the beginning of the thirteenth century, it was under the feudal domain of the Montcada (a well-known family from Tortosa). The place received a first Population Letter on August 30, 1208 in favor of Pere Nebot and, failing to prosper, it was given to Arnau de Figuerola on April 24, 1216. In the time of Jaume I it became real domain and afterwards it was of the Order of the Temple. Finally, it became the street of Tortosa and, in 1342, the city placed its shield on the front of the church.

Centuries later the municipality of Perelló and Tortosa faced an endless lawsuit over their possession, which was won by Tortosa and, finally, in a municipal session on January 19, 1863, the place was considered abandoned.

The tower, built in the thirteenth century with rows of stone without working, is cylindrical and slender, is about 16 meters high and allowed excellent control over the sea of Tortosa
