Description
The bridge of the Mil·lenari was baptized with this name because its construction coincided with the celebration of the millennium of Catalonia. It is a work of the engineers of roads, channels and ports José A. Fernández Ordoñez and Julio Martínez Calzón. It has been considered the brightest bridge in Europe (180m) made in hyperstatic structure. It has a total length of 384 m and a width of 17.70 m. It is built 22 m over the Ebro. For the construction of the access, with a length of 816 m and a road of 21.10 m wide, 3,600 m2 of drywalls were built and 180,000 m³ of embankments were conditioned.
The bridge houses the Museu de l'Ebre in the interior of the Paseo de Ribera. The location of the museum inside the bridge of the Mil·lenari makes it unique. It consists of two fixed exhibitions. The first one talks about the river, its content and its history. The second shows the ways to cross the Ebro (bridges, barges, etc.) and gives an explanation of the bridges that have existed and exist in Tortosa and in the Terres de l’Ebre. In the another room there are temporary exhibitions. The caravanning area is also located here.
